Counseling, also known as therapy, is a general term for treating mental health problems by talking with a mental health provider. During therapy, a participant learns about their condition, as well as, their moods, feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Counseling helps participants become empowered to take control of their life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. There are many specific types of therapy, each with its own approach. The type of therapy that’s right for the participant depends on the individual situation. Therapy is also known as talk therapy, counseling, psychosocial therapy, or psychotherapy.
We offer the following therapy options, and more:
We know you want the best for your children, and you want to be the best for them. So what could be better than working together to face the challenges of being a family? All of our counselors are mothers and fathers; they have those tough days too. Just like with any relationship, it all comes down to communication. Our counselors teach family members how to deal with conflicts, express their emotions in healthy ways, and look for ways of improvement.
Marriage is tough. Plain and simple. Our counselors help couples recognize deeper issues that all marriages face. It’s not that he watches too much football, or that she spends too much time on Pinterest; it’s that both are in competition for each other’s time. This example, and many other topics are discussed from the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) used by our counselors. Let us help you and your spouse remember why you first fell in love and how you can keep falling in love for the years to come.
You and your children can receive individual sessions with our counselors. Our counselors ask about your everyday life and help you set goals in order to improve it. They give guidance and reassurance that you can make a difference in your life. If you believe your child struggles with lack of motivation, fighting, yelling, poor behavior at school, depression, anxiety, Bipolar, or a form of autism, please feel comfortable enough to let them talk to a counselor.
Child Play Therapy
Sometimes it is challenging for children to open up and express their troubles. They either might not know how, or just can’t focus enough to do so. Play therapy is more than playing with dolls or drawing pictures. It is a comfortable environment for children to express what they are feeling when they do not want to answer direct questions. Our counselors are trained to play educational games with children in order to build a trusting relationship and find a successful outlet for the children’s feelings.
Are you worried that your children are not making friends due to their behavior? Do they act appropriately for certain situations? Or, do you feel like there is a behavior you want to change about yourself? Our counselors help modify certain behaviors in order to improve social, physical, and emotional states. They do this by assessing the environmental influences affecting you or your child’s life, and what reactions are coming from them. They will then establish goals on what needs to be changed, and create a plan on how to reach those goals. Our counselors have been taught and use various methods such as behavior modification and systematic desensitization to personalize their plans to their client’s needs.
Trauma therapy focuses on identifying traumatic events in one's life and treating the emotional, mental, and behavioral effects on them in a person. We offer eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR Therapy), Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT), and more.
